The ISMA president Abdullah Zaik Abdul Rahman, this Tuesday, gave birth to a major controversy against him when he suggested that the influx of Chinese migrants into Tanah Melayu had been “a mistake” and called the country’s second biggest race “invaders”. This called for police action against him due to the racist comments that were evident in his speech.
The groups deputy president Aminuddin Yahaya further claimed that the leaders from the Chinese opposition party, the DAP, had lodged a police report against them as part of a conspiracy to destroy the Malay race dating back to colonial times. “What is seditious about what he said? He was only stating historical facts. They just want to destroy the Malay identity that is why they have the slogan Malaysia for Malaysians — to create a country of Malaysians with no Malays,” he said during a short interview to a local media house.
The police had previously warned the public against being a part of or instigating any issue which can lead to racial tension and disharmony in the country. The Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Bakri Mohd Zinin informed that issues related to religion, tradition, origin and race should not be arbitrarily raised in order to become popular. “Force would act firmly under existing laws, specifically the Sedition Act 1948, against anyone who issued statements or acted in any way which could disunite the races in the country,” he said in a statement here today. He further added that investigations were being carried out against Rahman under Section 4 (1) (c) of the Sedition Act.
