The case in Pakistan against the FBI agent, Joel Cox, who was arrested on the 5th of May from Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport for allegedly carrying ammunition and three knives onto an airplane, was formally dismissed this Monday morning after a request by the city’s police was submitted before the judge in a Karachi court.

The court hearing started with the police who submitted its final charge sheet in the case according to which Cox was issued a written authority letter by the US consulate to carry a weapon for his personal protection. The authority letter was verified by the Federal Interior Ministry following which the local police requested the court to drop the case. Observing that all circumstances were in favor of Joel Cox, the court decided to dismiss the case against the FBI agent. Joel was released on bail on the 8th of May after his arrest. He was then presented before the district court of Malir and the police had presented a final report regarding the case after which the court issued the order. On the 10th of May, the court had ordered the police to submit the final charge sheet on the 19th of May (today).

Cox was travelling from Karachi to Islamabad by PK-308 on the evening of May 5. From Islamabad he was scheduled to go back to the United States but his plans were cancelled when a routine search by the Airport Security Force at the Jinnah International Airport Karachi found 15 bullets filled in a magazine in his bags.
