Anandiben Mafatlal Patel, one of the leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was sworn-in this Thursday as Gujarat’s first woman chief minister by the state governor Kamala Beniwal at a ceremony held at the Mahatma Mandir in state capital Gandhinagar. Her council of ministers including six cabinet rank ministers and 14 ministers of state were also sworn in presence of the entire top all the chief leaders of the BJP including our new Prime Minister, Narendra Modi.

Patel, 73, became the 15th chief minister of Gujarat, succeeding Modi who is going to become the next Prime Minister of India. “Very few parties choose women as leaders. BJP has given a woman Chief Minister to Gujarat. So not only I, but each and every woman in Gujarat is feeling like Chief Minister,” Patel told the media after her swearing-in ceremony. “This is a big responsibility for me and I will work towards fulfilling this responsibility,” said Patel. Patel’s family could not hide their pride and were reflected in the comments by them.

Patel’s daughter Anar, also present at the ceremony commented, “This is a proud moment for our family. She (Patel) had done good work in the portfolios given to her in the past.” Whereas Patel’s husband Mafatlal expressed, “This is a matter of pride for me and my family. We are very happy. She will take forward the work of Narendra Modi.”
