The Congress is in for a change after the damage they faced in the recent elections. It is reportedly looking towards changing their chief ministers in cities like Assam, Haryana and Maharashtra. The Maharashtra chief minister Prithviraj Chavan is expected to be one of the first to step down. The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) is believed to be planning to name the former Union Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde as the new state CM. Though he has a very positive image with the people living in the rural areas of Maharashtra, he has still failed to win the recent Lok Sabha elections.
According to IBN, it is believed that the NCP never had a good working relationship with Chavan and are keen on a replacement for him. The names of state Agriculture Minister Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil and state Revenue Minister Bala Saheb Thorat are also doing the rounds as successor to Chavan. NCP chief Sharad Pawar along with Congress leaders AK Antony and Ahmed Patel met on Thursday to discuss the modalities and the strategy for the upcoming polls. The meeting, which lasted for nearly half an hour, comes in the backdrop of intense speculation that the Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan may have to put down his papers.
On the other hand, in Assam and Haryana there is intense inner-party rebellion and the Congress President Sonia Gandhi is considering to come with a younger party face, who will be able able to fight anti-incumbency. Party units of various states have been disbanded like that of Chhattisgarh and the focus will be to bring young faces who do not carry the baggage.
