At least fifteen people were burnt alive and thirty others were injured this Friday morning as a pipeline burst belonging to the Gas Authority of India Limited (GAIL) in East Godavari district, Andhra Pradesh. The police of Andhra Pradesh informed that the blast might have occurred when a tea vendor lit the stove after leaked gas from the pipeline had surrounded the area. However, only a detailed inquiry could unveil the real cause of the fire.

The State Finance Minister Yanamala Ramakrishnudu informed the reporters that 14 people were killed and many others were injured when the fire broke out at around 5:45 am. The minister further added that/ “The fire caused massive losses. Coconut trees and other crops in over 10 acres were reduced to ashes.” The dead included three women and three children. The death toll might rise as the conditions of few injured victims are still critical. The injured had been shifted to hospitals at Amalapuram and Kakinada towns. President Pranab Mukherjee has condoled loss of lives in the explosion.

Whereas the Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced an ex-gratia relief of Rs 2 lakh from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund for the family of all those who have lost their lives in the incident and Rs 50,000 for those who were seriously injured due to the blast.
