The Prime Minister of Pakistan Mian Nawaz Sharif visited the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) who have evacuated North Waziristan due to the operation against terrorists, Zarb-e-Azab, and have made a temporary stay at Bannu, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK).

On his arrival, the Prime Minister was received by the Chief of the Army Staff General Raheel Sharif. Federal Minister for Safron, Lt Gen (retired) Abdul Qadar Baloch and Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Pervez Rasheed accompanied the Prime Minister. Though Imran Khan could not be there due to his rally in Bahawalpur, he sent the Governor of Khyber Pakthunkhwa Sardar Mehtab Ahmed Khan and Chief Minister Pervez Khattak. “We realize this is a very difficult time for you, and we are working day and night to ease your problems,” said Sharif. The military officials gave a detailed briefing to the Prime Minister on the arrangements made for the internally displaced persons of North Waziristan in relief camps. He also met with the soldiers and officers of Pakistan Army.

The government is currently providing each IDP family with a monthly allowance of Rs. 12,000 according to The Nation, in addition to Rs. 3,000 house rent allowance and Rs. 5,000 food allowance. In addition to these, according to the premier, the IDPs would also receive Rs. 20,000 for the holy month of Ramzan. “So each IDP family will receive Rs. 40,000 during the month of Ramzan,” Sharif informed, “We are currently working on plans to reconstruct damaged and destroyed houses in North Waziristan after the operation is over,” he said. “We want to simultaneously develop FATA by building new roads, providing running water and sanitation facilities, and other civic amenities so life in the tribal areas is on par with conditions in the rest of Pakistan.”
