This first day of Ramadan and the first day of the week witnessed the appearance of Rana Sanaullah, the former provincial law minister and Dr Tauqir Shah, the ex-principal secretary to Punjab chief minister in front of the judicial commission formed by the Lahore High Court to investigate the highly controversial Model Town incident where Sana denied all responsibility for the incident.

Sana informed that he was aware of an anti-encroachment drive in Model Town area and he agreed that he had ordered the removal of the barriers but nothing more then that. The police, he said, had informed him that the Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) supporters and workers were throwing stones at them but still the situation was under the police control. He added that he had never allowed or ordered the police to shoot the PAT workers and completely denied to take any responsibility for the incident that happened on June 17.

The house of Dr. Tahirul Qadri, the chief of PAT, had been attacked during the incident. More than eighty people were injured and eight were declared dead on the spot. Two women were part of the deceased. The death toll had increased to eleven as the injured supporters of PAT waited for assistance by the General and Jinnah Hospital doctors. The Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif had removed the then provincial Law Minister Rana Sanaullah and his own secretary Dr Tauqir Shah on June 20, saying “the difficult decision was necessary to make it visible to everyone that justice is being done” in the Model Town tragedy.
