The Supreme Court removed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) director Ranjit Sinha this Thursday from the 2G spectrum case, on the bases that the chief had tried to derail the investigation and had further attempted to held the accused in the scam.

“We direct Ranjit Sinha not to interfere in the 2G probe,” the investigation team constituted in the CBI to probe this case will take over the handling of the case in place of Ranjit Sinha,” said the Supreme Court.”To protect the fair name of the CBI and to protect the reputation of the CBI director, we are not giving elaborate reasons as the CBI has its own reputation and we don’t intend to tarnish it,” the bench further added.

The reports by a telecom news portal further informed that this verdict by the Supreme Court was based on the petition filed by lawyer Prashant Bhushan that Ranjit Sinha had tried to help those who were facing serious criminal charges in the 2G scam and had also also provided the court with the original guest (gate entry diary) of Ranjits residence which showed that about 50 meetings had been held between Ranjit Sinha and the representatives of 2G. Bhushan refused to tell the name of the person who had provided him with the documents. The documents proved that the 2 top Reliance ADAG officials visited the CBI director’s residence nearly 50 times in the last one year.
