The formalities are yet to be completed to present the Indian fishermen before a Jaffna Court, chances of their release on Wednesday is fast receding.

Earlier, Indian officials had hoped that the fishermen would be released by evening.

Sources said that the material to be presented to the magistrate and the fishermen would be produced before the magistrate at his residence.

According to Indian official 112 fishermen were being held along with 18 trawlers. The Indian High Commission is trying to get an early release of the fishermen and have been in touch with the Sri Lankan authorities, including its Attorney General Mohan Peires.
According to the Sri Lankan navy, the Indian fishermen were detained by the fishermen of Jaffna, 15-20 km off Point Pedro. They were then later handed over to the police there.
The new-opened Indian consular general office in Jaffna was granted access to the Indian fishermen and they are in touch with them.
The officials in Jaffna initially wanted to perform medical test of all the fishermen and record their health status. This was to ensure that they had no complaints on their health status once they go back to Tamil Nadu.
