Continuous rains swell rivers throughout the state pushing more than 3500 people to move away from their houses to camps and other temporary arrangement for an indefinite time span.

An additional 2000 people were made to leave their homes in north-western side of Sydney due to the rising level of water in Hawkesbury-Nepean River. The announcement for further evacuation was made on Saturday as the river rose another 7.4 meters this Saturday. The swelling river forced the authorities to close the Windsor Bridge and the North Richmond Bridge.

According to the estimates made by the rainfall authorities, the river water level is expected to rise to 11 meters in the next 48 hours.

The Emergency Services Commissioner of the NSW state, Murray Kear said, “We would have to go back 20 or 30 years to see some similar peaks. There has been an unprecedented amount of rain over a long duration. This rain event covers 75 per cent of the state.”

He further prepared the residents for more evacuations if the rain continued to drop at this pace. Further announcements will be made after seeing the conditions throughout the state. He also informed that more than 500 volunteers are working with the SES rescuing people. About 43 flood rescues have been made since Monday where two individuals rescued from their car near the Blayney river crossing last night.
