Mulhren Oil Waste depot caught fire Tuesday noon just 12 kms away from the Adelaide CBD, covering the entire city’s sky in black smoke.

The gigantic fire broke out in the industrial section of the suburbs of the city which is still not under the control of the respective authorities. It is being reported that people have been asked to evacuate from within 150 meter radius of the fire to avoid inhaling the dangerous chemicals coming out of the smoke. Small fires around the oil depot are also springing up making the situation worse for the fire brigades and emergency teams working on the location.

Authorities are using Arial bombs to reduce the spread of the fire since the oil from the depot is making the condition worse. A team of 50 plus fire fighters are working at the site with multiple flammable liquids in the building. Other buildings towards the east of the fire-caught-depot are under threat since the blowing winds in the east direction are adding to the tension of the fire fighters.

Traffic in the surrounding areas has been affected due to diversions. Cold water tanks are also being called on the site to help fire fighters who are getting sick due to the heat of the flames of the fire.

The commander of the Metropolitan Fire Service Roy Thompson said, “Those travelling in the area should exercise caution as smoke may reduce visibility”.
