An animal welfare group, named Mercy For Animals Canada, has vowed to release a secretly shot video recording of disgusting scenes from two large-scale egg-producing plants on Monday. It mentioned that the “shocking hidden-camera video of animal abuse secretly recorded in Alberta at an egg factory farm” will make corporations stop buying their eggs from battery-cage operators, which is a practice already adopted across Europe. Last month, Manitoba egg producers proclaimed having planned to phase out conventional cages in light of changing public views over the ethical treatment of animals.

The group has announced to publicly unveil the video on Monday at 11 a.m. at the Vancouver Public Library, about which it stated that “the disturbing undercover video reveals egg-laying hens crammed in filthy wire cages so small they are unable to walk or even spread their wings, dead hens rotting in cages with birds still laying eggs for human consumption and workers violently smashing chicks and then tossing them alive and conscious into garbage bags to slowly suffocate.” The group further adds that “Mercy For Animals Canada is urging fast-food giant McDonald’s Canada to take a stand against egregious animal cruelty by implementing a purchasing policy against eggs from suppliers who use battery cages, as McDonald’s in the European Union has already done.”

Mercy For Animals Canada is a non-profit organization that aims at preventing cruelty to farmed animals and promoting compassionate food choices and policies, their mission statement says that “MFA Canada aims to expose this cruelty to the public and to effect meaningful change for abused farmed animals through undercover investigations, public education, legal advocacy and corporate outreach.”
