The recently released figures have shown that the number of unemployed people have risen to 2.68 million in the three months to November. It is the highest level in 17 years and the youth and over 50s are suffering the most, as told by an expert.
The Office for National Statistics (ONS) has told that the unemployment rate also rose to 8.4% from 8.3%, the highest since January 1996.
According to the new reports, the youth unemployment has risen and 16 to 24-year-olds unemployed have increased by 52,000 in three months to 1.04 million, which equals to 22.3 percent of that age group.
The situation has also critically increased the number of jobseeker’s allowance claimants in December by 1,200 to 1.6 million – the 10th consecutive monthly rise and the highest for a year, but less than experts expected.
The number of jobless has raised the most in the north east where the unemployment rate is presently 12 percent.
Other figures have also brought to light this fact that almost a million working days were lost in November due to the public sector pensions strike, the highest number of days lost as a result of a strike since 1989.
The Employment Minister, Chris Grayling has stated that the figures were "much too high" but that it was a "priority for the Government to bring them down as soon as possible".
The figures are presenting a support for a flat UK economy, with other data released on Wednesday showing average weekly earnings, including bonuses, grew at just 1.9 percent.
The Prime Minister, David Cameron has shown disappointment over the figures and said that this is a tragedy for the people who have become jobless and government is working upon this matter to get people employed again to tackle this situation.
