Cabinet Minister, Baroness WarsiPrime Minister, David Cameron has ordered an official inquiry into cabinet minister, Baroness Warsi over the claims of her breaking the ministerial code by taking a business partner on an official foreign trip to Pakistan.

The Prime Minister called for the probe into Lady Warsi’s conduct after she has admitted not fully declaring the facts about her trip to Pakistan with Abid Hussain Mr. Cameron has consulted his independent adviser, Sir Alex Allan on ministerial interests, to look into the matter and decide whether she has breached the rules. The investigation may lead to her dismissal.

Mr. Cameron’s immediate referral of Lady Warsi to Sir Alex is likely to raise allegations of PM having double standards as he has repeatedly rejected the idea to refer Jeremy Hunt for investigation over his controversial dealings with the Murdoch media empire.

It has been uncovered that Lady Warsi and Mr. Hussain were both directors of a company called Rupert’s Recipes.

Lady Warsi has apologised for any “embarrassment to the government”. She has told that Mr. Hussain was her husband’s second cousin and this was “widely known”, both to her private office and the British High Commission in Pakistan. But she did not realise the fact they had “a common business interest as minority shareholders in a small food company” also had to be declared.

She said: “I sincerely regret that I did not consider the significance of this relationship with Mr Hussain when the arrangements for the visit were being made. In retrospect, I accept that I should have made officials aware of the business relationship between Mr. Hussain and myself, and for this I am sorry. I regret that this failure may have caused embarrassment to the government.”

However, she has insisted that Mr. Hussain had not made any gain from the visit and that none of his costs had been funded by the taxpayer.

Mr. Cameron has accepted her statement that Mr. Hussain did not benefit from the trip, and accepted her apology over her “error” on declaration reserved his decision of investigating the matter.

This case is being investigated by a parliament watchdog over reports she claimed accommodation allowance while staying with a friend without spending any money. Lady Warsi has replied that she made an “appropriate payment” to her friend, also her special adviser, Naweed Khan, who had rented her the space to make her stay. But the owner of the property in Acton, west London, Dr. Wafik Moustafa, said he did not get any payment from her.
