The leader of U.K. Independent Party, Nigel Farage was forced to leave an Edinburgh’s pub under police escort after he was confronted by angry Scottish protestors.
Mr. Farage has commented on the awkward situation after getting rescued by police when the rowdy Scottish protesters were calling him “racist Nazi scum”.
On Thursday night, the staff at the Canons’ Gait pub on Edinburgh’s Royal Mile were forced to clear the place, where UKIP leader was due to hold a news conference near the Scottish Parliament, after it was surrounded with around 50 nationalists and socialists who demanded from Mr. Farage “Go home to England.”
Mr. Farage tried to escape the situation by leaving in taxi but protesters blocked its path and he was forced to return to the pub, where police barricaded the doors until officers in a riot van came to his rescue.
The day after the incident took place; Mr. Farage blamed anti-English racism for hateful demonstration and called the protesters “yobbo, fascist scum”.
The leader asked Scottish National Party leader, Alex Salmond to condemn and take notice of the behavior.
SNP spokesperson has responded that “anyone who heard the (radio) interview with Nigel Farage … would have thought he has completely lost the plot.
“Nothing he says can be treated with a shred of credibility and his partners in the NO campaign should be embarrassed about his behaviour.”
First Minister, Mr. Salmond has later added: “We’ll have our political debate and discourse in a proper way in Scotland. We can frankly do without UKIP, who dislike everybody and know absolutely nothing about Scotland.”
