U.K. Foreign Seretary, William HagueU.K. Foreign Secretary, William Hague has told the U.K. “will work with the people in authority in Egypt” but also condemned the overthrowing of its democratically elected president Mohamed Morsi as “a dangerous thing”.

Mr. Hague has insisted that Britain had to be “practical” in coping with the situation after the Egyptian army forced Morsi out of office and held him in detention after days of deadly protests against his rule.

Until recently the Egyptian Supreme Court chief justice, Adly Mansour has been sworn-in as interim head of state.

Mr. Hague had told that U.K. is in favor of a civilian-led government in Egypt. However, he has also expresses the willingness to “work with whoever is in authority” to protect Britons and U.K. firms in Egypt.

Mr. Hague has added that the U.K. did not back any military interventions to resolve disputes in democratic systems but called for a swift return to democratic processes and early presidential elections.

Mr. Hague has urged Egypt’s political leaders to find a way to work in unity on a new constitution which protects minorities and also shows concern that an interim government must take urgent steps to improve the country’s economic situation.

Mr. Hague has stressed: “In the long run only democratic processes and government by consent will bring the stability and prosperity that the people of Egypt seek.”
