Andy CoulsonThe phone hacking trial continues as the court has heard that former News of the World editor Andy Coulson instructed his news editor involved in investigating an exclusive story on television celebrity and model Calum Best to “do his phone”.

A total of eight defendants have so far been charged with several charges in relation to phone-hacking conspiracy, allegedly paying illegally to public officials for stories, and destroying evidences to hinder police investigations. All the accused individuals have denied the charges.

Mr. Coulson, who also served as Prime Minister David Cameron’s media chief after leaving News of the World, faces two counts on making illegal payments to public officials.

Prosecutor Andrew Edis QC has told the jurors at Old Bailey that ex-spin doctor had emailed the orders to his then head of news, Ian Edmondson.

It has been brought in the knowledge of court that in May 2006, the paper was planning to run an exclusive story about the private life of Mr. Best.

Mr. Edis has further stated the accused had disclosed his fears that the story about the son of late football star George Best and a woman might be leaked to some rival paper.

Court has been shown an email exchange in which Mr. Coulson wrote to the senior journalist to ‘do his phone.’

However, Mr. Coulson and Mr. Edmondson have denied the allegations to intercept communications.
