British government is now ready to announce its fresh move in the coming week to aid reducing the cost of living through a crackdown on rising water bills.

The plans are considered after Labour leader Ed Miliband called for the water industry to be “scrutinised” to confirm that it is not ripping off customers.

Also Mr. Milliband has promised to freeze gas and electricity bills for 20 months in case the Labour party get elected in general election 2015.

The Environment secretary, Owen Paterson has told that new plan is partial attempt by Prime Minister David Cameron to bring down household costs.

Downing Street has indicated that Mr. Cameron is willing to reduce the financial burden on households and for that he is targeting the water industry this time.

The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs has already offered customers in the South-west a £50 rebate. The new moves are likely to cover homes across England.

Mr. Cameron’s spokesperson has said: “The Prime Minister wants to see household costs coming down.

“There will be some progress next week which Defra will be doing on the water industry and water bills.”

The Environment is expected to propose support for underprivileged families to pay their bills.

The Government has already taken action to freeze council tax bills, limit rail fare rises and cancel increases in the cost of MoTs in its initiative on cutting the cost of living.

The news that ministers will make the announcement next week has been disclosed just hours after Mr. Miliband cautioned that the water industry could not escape scrutiny when families were struggling to make ends meet.

The Labour leader said: “I think we should be looking at all markets to make sure they are working properly and that includes the water industry.”

But sources insisted it is not an easy task to tackle rising bills as they were set by the regulator Ofwat.

It has also been pressed on the announcement about taking action against water companies is not made amid rising pressure from Labour.

A source has mentioned Chancellor George Osborne had indicated about the Government’s new moves in his speech last month.
