A mother and son from Seven Sisters have been jailed for possession of a shotgun at their N15 home.

Tyrone Russell-Allen, 18, unemployed, and his mother Violet Allen, 55, a shop worker, both of Hillside Road, N15 were sentenced at Wood Green Crown Court yesterday, Wednesday1 September.

Tyrone Russell-Allen pleaded guilty to seven counts and was sentenced to:

= Count 1: possession of a firearm, namely a sawn off shotgun – sentenced to five years;

= Count 2: possession of ammunition for a firearm without a certificate – sentenced to two years;

= Count 3: possession of component parts of a firearm – sentenced to five years;

= Count 4: possession of cannabis – sentenced to one month;

= Count 5: possession of heroin – sentenced to six months;

= Count 6: possession of cocaine – sentenced to six months;

= Count 7: possession of cocaine – sentenced to six months.

Counts 1, 2 and 3 to run concurrently; and consecutively to Counts 4, 5, 6 and 7 – which are also to run concurrently.

Violet Allen pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm, namely a sawn off shotgun and was sentenced to two years.

In the early hours of Tuesday 23 March officers from Haringey CID’s Crime Squad carried out a firearms search warrant, under Section 46 of the Firearms Act 1968, at a house in Hillside Road, N15.

Police found the defendants, Allen and her son Russell-Allen, present at the address.

Allen directed police to a holdall in her bedroom where they found a sawn-off shotgun, ten unfired .44 and .45 calibre bullets and a disassembled handgun. While carrying out the warrant police also found 700g of Cocaine, 2g of Heroin and 10g of Cannabis.

The defendants were arrested on suspicion of possession of firearms and drugs and taken to Tottenham police station where they were charged and remanded in custody to appear at Wood Green Crown Court on Wednesday 24 March.

Detective Superintendent Paul Hoare, said: "We will continue to carry out intelligence-led search warrants to ensure that we take firearms off the streets of Haringey and bring to justice those responsible for using, storing, carrying and distributing them."

Investigating officer Detective Constable Barry O’Rourke of Haringey’s Crime Squad, said: "The weapons seized during this search warrant may well have been used in the commission of any number of violent crimes had it not been for our intervention."

Part of Haringey CID, the Crime Squad was set up in March 2009 to disrupt gangs and gun crime in the borough. The Crime Squad also proactively targets those involved in burglary, robbery and the supply and misuse of illegal drugs.
