U.K. Prime Minister David Cameron has urged Scots on Thursday during his two-day visit to Scotland to stay in union with the Britain while promoting anti-independence campaign.

The Tory leader has invoked the memory of former Labour leader John Smith – who died 20 years ago – as a “proud Scot” who wanted what was best for his country.

Mr Cameron has hailed the great thinking of Mr Smith, who admitted that “wanting to be part of something bigger does not make you any less Scottish”.

The Scottish people will be given the right to vote either in favour or against independence of Scotland in the referendum which is to take place on September 18.

The Conservative leader will use the visit to counter a rise in support for secession in opinion polls, addressing to people in Glasgow on Thursday.

Just four months before the referendum, Mr Cameron has insisted the voters: “We want Scotland to stay.”

He has also added that the people from “all walks of life and all parts of the UK know, as I know, that we are all better together”.

While, Scottish Deputy First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has told that Mr Cameron’s trip north is part of a “wholesale Tory takeover” of the campaign to keep both Scotland and Britain together, with the caution this could prove “disastrous” for those opposed to independence.

Despite the former Labour Chancellor Alistair Darling – the leader of pro-Union Better Together campaign has denied earlier this week the claims of his being side-lined from the campaign by telling the movement had “many voices”, Ms Sturgeon has again mentioned that in her statement.

Ms Sturgeon has stated: “If they think shoving Alistair Darling aside and sending David Cameron and battalions of Tory MPs north instead is the answer, they are gravely mistaken.

“We will be better off if all decisions on our future are made here in Scotland rather than by an out-of-touch Tory elite at Westminster.”
