British Prime Minister David CameronBritish Prime Minister David Cameron has warned his fellow European Union leaders that Brussels is “too big, too bossy, too interfering” and made clear opposition to the front runner in line to take the union’s top job.

On arrival for an informal summit due to take stock of the election disaster on Tuesday, Mr Cameron has said that Europe cannot ignore the results of the European Parliament elections, which clearly showed the rise of anti-EU and extreme right-wing groups.

U.K. Prime minister has told ahead of the meeting: “It is a very clear message. The EU cannot shrug off these results and carry on as before. We need change. We need an approach that recognizes that Europe should concentrate on what matters, on growth and jobs.”

The EU leaders will discuss setting out the process for finding a replacement for European Commission president Jose Manuel Barroso whose term will endin October. However, Mr Cameron has expressed stark opposition to current front runner and ex-Luxembourg premier Jean-Claude Juncker – an EU veteran with federalist ambitions.

The 28 leaders will also highlight the importance of securing a candidate motivated and open to flexibility instead of being bound up in the union’s past.

Mr Cameron has told: “We need an approach that recognizes that Brussels has got too bossy, too big, too interfering. We need more for nation states.

“It should be the nation states wherever possible, Europe only when necessary and of course we need people running these organizations really understand that and can build a Europe that is for openness, competitiveness and flexibility, not about the past.”

While, the leader of U.K. Independence Party – who has topped the polls in Britain recently, Nigel Farage has earlier insisted there was “nobody more fanatical about building the United States of Europe” than Mr Juncker and claimed his nomination has come at the right moment when “European electors have made it clear they are going in the wrong direction”.
