Sir Peter FahyThe Greater Manchester Police Chief Constable Sir Peter Fahy faces a probe on criminal misconduct over claims of poorly handling an investigation into an alleged child sex offender.

Mr Fahy is alleged to be involved in a failed surveillance operation in which a vulnerable teenage boy was allowed to enter the residence of a suspected paedophile.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) are now investigating the claims which also involves three other officers, including one who is now retired, were also at fault.

Following the claims by a whistle-blower, IPCC have announced yesterday that Mr Fahy has been served with criminal and gross misconduct notices.

In this wake, Sir Peter is also facing the calls to quit his position.

However, Greater Manchester Police and Crime Commissioner Tony Lloyd has told that Sir Peter would not be suspended.

The IPCC inquiry will mainly focus the claims that officers were so intent on gathering evidence against the known criminal that they overturned calls for surveillance operation to be dismissed to protect the child.

Sir Peter has told: “As a chief constable you face making complex decisions on a daily basis about many high risk and challenging situations.

“It is right that this decision-making is scrutinised and that I am held to account as part of this investigation.”
