David Cameron, Ed Miliband and Nick CleggThree main British pro-union parties’ leaders have announced that they all will make last-minute trip to north of Scotland on Wednesday to save 307-year-old union.

Prime Minister David Cameron and Labour leader Ed Miliband have reached an agreement to skip their traditional weekly faceoff debate in the House of Commons tomorrow and instead travel separately to Scotland along with Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg to support ‘No’ campaign after an opinion poll reveals a surge in support of an independent Scotland.

All three leaders have stated jointly: “We want to be listening and talking to voters about the huge choice they face.

“Our message to the Scottish people will be simple: ‘We want you to stay’.”

Recently, YouGov poll have seen the ‘Yes’ campaign ahead for the first time after the second televised debate on Scotland’s future between the Scottish First Minister Alex Salmond and Better Together leader Alistair Darling. Before that, the majority of individuals were backing the union but now they are almost neck-to-neck ahead of a September 18 referendum on independence.

This week the three unionist parties will propose a timetable for the transfer of new powers over income tax and welfare spending to the devolved Scottish government, if voters will decide against separation.

SNP leader, Mr Salmond – who leads the pro-independence forces, has said the last-minute trip of the British leaders and their proposals were a “sign of the total disintegration of the No campaign”.

He has added: “The polls at the weekend, which caused so much panic in the breasties of the No campaign, actually showed that independence was the most popular option.

“The ‘No’ campaign think that they are losing this campaign – and these hugely distrusted Westminster leaders trooping up to Scotland is only going to boost that process.”

Mr Salmond has also indicated the reason behind this step by three Westminster elite leaders saying that they are “in a state of absolute panic as the ground in Scotland shifts under their feet.”
