Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary (HMIC) has mentioned in its recent report that their last inspection found that Humberside Police is failing in its efforts to keep people safe and reduce crime. The report says that the inspection conducted in June unveiled several flaws in how the force is using its resources to meet the needs of the public.

According to the report, the force’s efficiency was inadequate and considerably lower than what should be expected. Quite noticeably, a similar report last year said that the efficiency level was good. The inspectors claim to have some serious concerns about the future of Humberside Police’s new operating model as they said it is resulting in a “systemic failure” to provide a quality service to the public.

HM Inspector of Constabulary, Mike Cunningham, mentioned in his remarks that there are serious concerns about its future effectiveness. He explained that “we inspected how Humberside Police uses its resources now and how it plans to do so in the future and have judged that it was inadequate,” adding that “Humberside Police has a limited understanding of the current and future demand for its services and, as it is unable to fully match resources to demand in some important areas, this affects its ability to provide a good service to the public.” He explained that “Humberside Police is working to provide a quality and timely service to the public, something that has been compromised this year by problems with the introduction of a new operating model, but its current workforce model is not sustainable.”
