In an ongoing series of politicians declaring their stance on UK’s possible EU exit, former Foreign Secretary William Hague has pointed out that an EU exitmight result in the breakup of the UK. During an interview on Telegraph, Mr. Hague declared that he was “unlikely” to join former cabinet colleagues Liam Fox and Owen Paterson in voting to leave in the referendum which he suggested would be in 2016.

Mr Hague’s article cautioned that if the UK did vote to leave the EU, it will lead to a risky situation and Scottish nationalists might “jump at the chance” to re-open the independence debate and “the result of it could well be too close to call.” Whereas on the other hand, Tory MP Bernard Jenkin commented that William Hague was “completely wrong” to suggest a “Brexit” could split the UK. In either case, the prime minister has repetitively promised to hold an in/out vote before the end of 2017.

Meanwhile, Poland’s new President, Andrzej Duda, has also warned in a statement that the EU would also be facing a “very serious crisis” if the UK decides to leave. Mr Duda explained that EU had “many weaknesses” and warned a UK exit from the bloc could cause further havoc. He stated that “the EU has been shaken time and time again with crises – whether it’s the financial crisis, or the refugees crisis,” adding that “let’s not pretend, a UK exit from the EU will be a very serious crisis for the EU. Of that I have no doubt.”
