A group of plain-clothed militia have once again desecrated the grave of Green Movement martyr Kianoosh Asa in Kermanshah Province.

The official website of opposition leader Mir Hossein Mousavi Kaleme, has reported that a group of plain-clothed militia have vandalised the grave of Kianoosh Asa by daubing paint on his image. The group also uprooted a cedar tree planted by Kianoosh’s mother last year ahead of the Iranian New Year to remember her fallen son during Iran’s Natural Resources Week.

Asa was a master’s student at the Iran University of Science & Technology who was murdered by Iranian security forces on 15 June 2009 as he took part in massive rallies to protest against the fraudulent 2009 presidential election. According to Iranian media reports, his family identified his body ten days later and the cause of death was found to be a gunshot to the neck. He was only 25 years old at the time of his death. Asa’s murderers have not yet been identified.

Since 1996, Kianoosh Asa had been regularly engaged in programmes aimed at preserving the environment in his home province of Kermanshah, such as distributing thousands of tree plants.

Recently, students at IUST remembered their slain comrade on his birthday by lighting candles and distributing his picture on campus.
