An Iranian activist residing in Kuala Lumpur has been summoned by the Malaysian police.

According to Iranian opposition website Jaras, in an “unprecedented” move, Green Movement activist Ali Jamshidi has to refer to the federal police headquarters in Bukit Aman.

Like many other fellow activists, Ali Jamshidi fled Iran for the southeast Asian country following the controversial 2009 presidential election and its aftermath. Since then, he’s been a presenter for Rasa, a satellite television channel dedicated to covering the opposition movement. He has also been actively involved in pro-reformist websites and social networks covering Iran.

As of late, websites close to the Iranian government have been conducting a smear campaign against the community of Iranian dissidents residing in Malaysia. One such report by Raja news suggested that Jamshidi had been a “pawn” for the US ambassador to Malaysia.

“Based on available evidence, since the appointment of Iran’s new Charge d’Affaires to Malaysia; [Iranian] Intelligence Ministry elements have made extensive efforts to encourage the Malaysian government to confront [Iranian] political activists [there],” Jaras reported.
