Intimidations ‘illegal’ and ‘immoral’

Close 250 Iranian women have condemned the continued harassment of the family of imprisoned opposition leader Mir Hossein Mousavi.

In a recent statement, the women described the Iranian security forces’ attempts to intimidate the three daughters of Mir Hossein Mousavi as “illegal, immoral” and against religious norms.

The signatories include human rights and political activists, as well as families of political prisoners and martyrs of the Iran-Iraq war.

Authorities recently held and questioned two daughters of Mir Hossein Mousavi and the son of fellow opposition figure Mehdi Karoubi for several hours.

The two men were reformist candidates in the widely contested June 2009 presidential elections which were followed by massive protests across the country.

Mousavi, Karroubi and Mousavi’s wife Zahra Rahnavard were placed under house arrest in February 2011 after the opposition duo called for demonstrations in support of the revolutions in the Arab World.

The three opposition figures remain isolated from the outside world and are prevented from meeting and communicating regularly with other members of their families.
