The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) has charged a 54-year-old male RNC officer with impaired operation of a motor vehicle after his vehicle was stopped by street patrol officers on Topsail Road.

On Friday, March 11, 2011 at approximately 1:30 am, RNC Street Patrol Officers responded to a complaint of a possible impaired driver in the area of McDonald’s restaurant on Topsail Road in St. John’s, NL. It is alleged that the accused’s vehicle collided with the side of the restaurant while going through the drive-thru.

The lone occupant and driver of the vehicle was an off-duty RNC veteran officer. The RNC has laid criminal charges against the officer, who has been suspended without pay pending the outcome of internal disciplinary proceedings.
