The Edmonton Police Service has charged a man for allegedly leaving the scene of a collision that resulted in a traffic fatality in 2009.

Leonard Roderick Tourangeau, 37, has been charged with failure to stop at the scene of an accident – offence involving bodily harm, and failure to stop at the scene of an accident – offence involving bodily harm/death.

Background:

Shortly after 9 p.m. on September 24, 2009, Tourangeau was allegedly driving a truck with two adult passengers that collided with a power pole at 127 Avenue and 101 Street. Tourangeau allegedly fled the scene without following up with emergency responders. Both passengers suffered serious injuries in the crash, however, one succumbed to her injuries and died on November 20, 2009. A warrant was issued for Tourangeau, and he was arrested and charged on March 18, 2011.
