Hamilton police arrest Pierre Nowlan at gunpoint

Hamilton Police, after responding to a break and enter in progress, made an arrest at gunpoint of a man armed with knives.

On May 12th, 2011, just after midnight, Hamilton Police responded to a home on Niagara St. near Burlington St. to investigate a break and enter in progress involving a suspect armed with a knife.

The victim, a 48 yr. old resident of the multi-dwelling residence, was asleep but awoke to the sound of someone attempting to force open his door. The suspect, a person known to the victim, managed to force the door open. The victim could see that the suspect was armed with two knives. Fearing for his safety, the victim attempted to force the door closed by pushing his body against the door. The suspect continued to try to force his way inside. The victim managed to push a clothing dresser in front of the door, giving him time to call 9-1-1. While police were responding, the suspect continued his attempts to gain entry to the room and yelled verbal threats to kill the victim.

Hamilton Police arriving at the home found the suspect descending the stairs armed with two large knives. The suspect was challenged at gun point by the responding officers, prompting the suspect to drop the knives. The suspect was arrested and searched. A third knife was found in the suspects back pocket. The arrested man is expected to appear in court for a bail hearing today. The victim was not harmed.
