A Calgary man has been returned to Canada from Mexico to face first-degree murder charges in relation to a 2010 homicide.

On Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2010, the body of Serafino VIRGILIO, 57, was located inside a vehicle that was parked in the 100 block of Falsmere Way N.E. An autopsy revealed VIRGILIO was the victim of a homicide.

Investigators believe he was killed on Sunday, Jan. 17, 2010, while in a home in the 200 block of Falshire Way N.E., and later concealed inside a 1999 GMC Denali.

On Tuesday, March 15, 2011, warrants for first-degree murder and one count each of accessing and possessing child pornography were issued for Pablo Rodrigo RUSSELL, 34, of Calgary.

At approximately 1:30 p.m., on Wednesday, April 13, 2011, immigration officials in Tijuana, Mexico, arrested RUSSELL. He was detained by Mexican officials when he was unable to provide proper documentation when asked why he was in the country. Officials then discovered the warrants for his arrest and contacted Canadian officials.

After working with Canadian and Mexican immigration officials, CPS Homicide Unit investigators escorted RUSSELL back to Canada on Wednesday, May 25, 2011, arriving at the Vancouver International Airport.

RUSSELL has seen a Justice of the Peace and remains in custody in the Vancouver area. Arrangements are being made for his return to Calgary, which will likely happen next week.
