Southern Alberta Integrated Fugitive Apprehension (IFA) has arrested a man wanted for attempted murder in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

In early February 2011, IFA received information that Ahmed Abdulqadir ABDI, 29, may be in southern Alberta. Through further investigation, officers determined ABDI was living in Calgary under an alias, Ali Abdi OMAR.

Once his identity was confirmed through fingerprints, IFA began to work with the U.S. Marshals Service and Canada Border Services Agency to return ABDI to Minnesota.

While this process was taking place, ABDI was arrested by the RCMP in Brooks, AB on Monday, May 30, 2011 as part of an assault investigation.

ABDI was detained while IFA investigators worked with Alberta Justice to have a warrant issued for his arrest. On Tuesday, May 31, 2011, IFA executed that warrant and ABDI was transferred to Edmonton to face an extradition hearing.

His next court appearance will be on Monday, June 13, 2011 at Court of Queen’s Bench Bail Court in Edmonton.
