Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) investigators have made a second arrest and Crown has now approved two additional counts of First Degree murder in connection with the 2008 murder of Lisa Dudley and Guthrie McKay.

Justin Andrew MACKINNON, age 25 of Sydney Nova Scotia, was arrested in Sydney on June 2nd 2011. MACKINNON will make his first appearance on June 3rd in Sydney Provincial Court. It is anticipated that he will be remanded in custody and transported back to the Lower Mainland where he will appear in Abbotsford BC Provincial Court on Monday June 6, 2011.

Since the murders, it is the belief of investigators that MACKINNON has resided in four different provinces, including British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Nova Scotia where he was finally located by IHIT officers.

During the past 32 months IHIT investigators have continued to move the investigation forward. They have recently worked in partnership with the Cape Breton Regional Police Service and with the RCMP in Nova Scotia. Both agencies provided assistance and police resources as required to advance the investigation.

”These most recent charges have been brought about by a team of dedicated and hard-working investigators who have shown great determination and persistence “says Inspector Kevin HACKETT Operations Officer at IHIT. “The cooperation and assistance provided by our partners in Nova Scotia contributed to this success and is an excellent example of coordinated policing. “

This arrest follows the previous arrest of Jack WOODRUFF on May 12th who has since been charged with two counts of first degree murder in relation to the same offence.

On September 22, 2008 Mission RCMP received a report of a suspicious circumstance at a residence in the 31000 block of Greenwood Drive in rural Mission BC.

Once police arrived at the address they were met with an apparent homicide scene. Inside the home was a male and female both were suffering from gunshot related injuries.

The investigation supports the belief that both victims were targeted and this was not a random act of violence.
