Elderly Regina woman charged in million dollar payroll fraud

A 71 year-old Regina female faces Theft and Fraud charges in connection with a lengthy, complex case involving 39 victims and an estimated million dollar loss.

In early October, 2008, the Regina Police Service started receiving complaints from several company owners who’d had all their employee paycheques returned because of insufficient funds. Investigation showed that these company owners were clients of the same payroll-service business, which was paid by them to calculate individual employees’ wages and tax deductions, issue employee cheques and remit deductions to the appropriate government authorities. The investigation identified 39 victims, but investigators believe there are additional victims who did not report to police. As a result of the two-year, eight-month investigation, police arrested and charged a 71 year-old female today, Tuesday, June 14, 2011.

Seventy-one year-old Geraldine Maloa WILLIAMS, DOB: 1939-09-17, of Regina, is facing a single, global charge (inclusive of all 39 victims) of Theft Over $5,000 [334(a) CC] and a single, global charge of Fraud Over $5,000 [380(1)(a) CC].

WILLIAMS will make her first court appearance on these charges in Provincial Court at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, July 11, 2011.
