The warrant for David Wesley Bobbitt stems from an incident of forcible confinement and sexual assault of a Penticton woman that unfolded between Saturday and Sunday overnight.
David Wesley Bobbitt of Penticton is described as:
white male, 35 yrs old
5’7" tall, weighing 180 lbs,
brown eyes, balding brown hair
Medium build
clean shaven
Backgrounder:
The matter began with the Penticton RCMP receiving a report of a missing person on Saturday July 30, 2011, at around 10:30 pm when a 22 yr old woman was reported missing by her family. Family reported the woman and her 22 month old son as missing, after she failed to drop the child off prior to her attending work. Later in the night between 02:15 and 03:00 a.m. Sunday morning, family members contacted police advising that they had located her vehicle parked on Ellis St in downtown Penticton. Police attended and patrolled the area, where they discovered the rear door of a business ajar. Uniformed officers entered and found the woman inside the second hand store on Ellis Street, bound and suffering from serious injuries. The woman’s child was also located nearby unharmed. Both the mother and child were immediately transported to hospital. Police combed the area with a police service dog and several officers throughout the night in efforts to locate Bobbitt, the leasee and operator of Dave’s Second Hand store located at 146 Ellis St. Penticton. Bobbitt also resided on the property but was not present on police attendance and has yet to be located.
“Investigators are treating the matter as a violent aggravated sexual assault and due to the fact that the victim was unknown to Bobbitt, he is considered as a threat to public safety. We need to locate this man” stated Cpl Dan Moskaluk
As of Sunday, the young woman remains in hospital care, receiving treatment for serious but non life threatening injuries of which she is believed to recover from at this time. Investigators would like to speak to anyone who may have frequented Dave’s Second Hand Store located on the west side of Ellis at 146 Ellis Street on Saturday July 30th.
