Five charged for pointing laser at Durham region helicopter

Five more young people have been charged in connection with a recent laser pointing incident involving police helicopter Air1.

Further investigation into the July 29, 2011 incident identified a number of other young people who were in the same backyard at the time and who were party to the offence.

Curtis LEE, Aaron MOUNTJOY, Andrew CAPESKY, Dale BRANTON and Alana CAPESKY, all 18 years old and from Oshawa, are charged with:

Assault with a Weapon Causing Bodily Harm
Common Nuisance
Mischief Endangering Life
Project Bright Light Source at Aircraft (Canadian Aviation Act)
Interfere with Performance of Duties of any Crew Member (Aeronautics Act)
Lessen the Ability of any Crew Member to Perform Duties (Aeronautics Act)

All five have been released on an OIC Undertaking with a promise to appear. If convicted, the charges under the Aeronautics Act each carry a maximum fine of $100,000 and/or five years in prison.
