Members of the DRPS Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU) concluded their drug importation investigation with the arrest of a male accused from Brooklin.

On Thursday August 11, 2011, members of the DEU concluded an investigation into drug importation, after receiving intelligence information earlier in the week from members of the RCMP. DEU officers were alerted to a 500 gram shipment of cocaine via Canada Post into Durham Region. The package was intercepted and the contents removed. The parcel was then delivered to an Oshawa area hotel, where the accused attended and registered under a false name. He received the parcel, left the premises and was observed discarding the outer wrapping.

DEU officers attempted to stop the suspect vehicle in the Walmart lot at Laval Drive and Stevenson Road south in Oshawa. The vehicle fled at a high rate of speed and officers discontinued their pursuit. A short time later, the suspect driver lost control of his vehicle and left the roadway at Champlain Avenue and Thornton Road. The accused was arrested after a brief foot chase by officers, without incident.

Hubert WATT, age 41, of Brooklin is charged with: Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Importing Cocaine, Possession of Cocaine and Possession of Marihuana.
