On August 20th, 2011 shortly before 3 pm, Lytton RCMP received a report that a man had been swept away in the Thompson River near the Goldpan Provincial Park, 27 km north-east of Lytton. The 41-year-old Abbotsford man was swimming with friends when it is believed that he attempted to swim out to a rock when he got swept away by the current. His friends were unable to pull him from the water. The man was not wearing a personal floatation device. The man has not been seen since.
Lytton RCMP, members of a nearby search and rescue team, and a police helicopter conducted a thorough search of the area yesterday and today but were unable to locate this man. It remains unknown at this time if the search will resume tomorrow.
