Investigators, Transportation Safety Board headed towards Yellowknife

On Thursday, a Twin Otter float plane crashed at a Yellowknife Street, killing two pilots and injuring seven people. According to Yellowknife RCMP, there were two crew members and seven passengers on board.

The facade of the plane was crushed after striking into a condo and power lines in Yellowknife. Nobody other than those on board was seriously injured. RCMP Const. Kathy Law said the plane was going to land on Great Slave Lake. It was reportedly en route from Thor Lake.

Investigators with the Transportation Safety Board are headed towards Yellowknife. According to the Northwest Territories’ medical examiners, the deceased have been identified; however, their names will not be disclosed yet.

Jill Groenewegan, a Yellowknife resident says, “I can’t believe that it missed both buildings. It’s crazy how close it is to both sides, and yet it managed to sort of squeeze between the two buildings.”

According to RCMP officer David Elliott, the Environment Department will be dealing with the trickling fuel, and it is using absorbent sheets to fasten the cleaning process.
