The Calgary Police Service has charged a woman in connection with the death of two infants.

On Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2010, at approximately 1:20 p.m., a citizen discovered a crying newborn baby in a garbage bin in the 500 block of 40 Avenue N.W.

District 3 units responded immediately and EMS transported the male infant to hospital in stable condition.

A woman was charged on Nov. 17, 2011, in connection with that incident.

During the course of the investigation, officers learned of the previous deaths of two infants. One was born sometime in 2008 and the other was born in 2009. It is alleged both babies died shortly after their birth. Their bodies have not been recovered.

Following consultation with the Crown Prosecutor, investigators from the Child Abuse Unit have charged a woman in connection with their deaths.

Meredith Katharine Borowiec, 30, has been charged with two counts of second degree murder.

She appeared in court on these charges this morning, Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2011.
