In the wake of a nurse’s murder in her Oakville home, police stayed silent about the possible connection of the fatal shooting of her separated husband by officers outside a police station on Thursday.
43-year-old Kyle Newman was seen damaging something in the Oakville station’s parking area in the midday. Therefore, the police came outside to deal with him. The next thing heard were a few gun shots fired by police. Mr. Newman was pronounced dead at the scene.
Consequently, Mr. Newman’s death is being investigated by the province’s police watchdog, the Special Investigations Unit. There are two subject officers and eight witnesses. According to Newman’s former colleague, the way he died is perplexing.
“He was always incredibly positive, he was extraordinarily funny, extraordinarily bright,” said Mike Kasprow, who was Mr. Newman’s manager when the two worked at Bell Canada in the late 1990s. Mr. Kasprow said Newman was perceptive when it came to work.
“He’s like the kind of guy you would have met at university and hit it off with really well,” he said. “She was incredibly lovely and they seemed to have an exceptionally good relationship.”
Police is avoiding any questions regarding the case. Sergeant Dave Cross said: “At this point it’s an active investigation and our main goal, right at this moment, is to attempt to establish the cause of death.”
