A 51-year-old Irishtown, N.B. man was sentenced on January 26, 2012 in Moncton Provincial Court to six years and nine months in prison for his involvement in child pornography.

Roger Joseph Williams had pleaded guilty in November 2011 to seven offences including possession of child pornography, distribution of child pornography, making child pornography, touching for a sexual purpose, and invitation to sexual touching involving two victims.

Williams had an extensive collection of child sexual abuse images. The children in the images ranged from infants to teenagers.

‘Identifying and tracking possible offenders is an ongoing effort,’ explains Corporal Jean-Marc Paré of the New Brunswick RCMP’s Internet Child Exploitation Unit. ‘Anyone viewing, sharing or making child sexual abuse images should know that the likelihood of being detected by police is increasing greatly. We have the ability to identify and track anyone participating in these types of activities.’

Williams was arrested on October 13, 2011, as part of an ongoing peer to peer investigation into the illegal trade of child sexual abuse images in New Brunswick. The investigation began in November 2010 and is a partnership between the RCMP and municipal and regional law enforcement agencies across New Brunswick.
