On Tuesday, February 28, 2012, at 2:30 p.m., skeletal human remains were located in the Yonge Street/401 area by two men who were walking in the area.

The remains were located on the south side of the eastbound off-ramp of the 401, beside the overpass, in a wooded area.

With the assistance of a Forensic Pathologist and a Forensic Anthropologist, the remains were removed to the Coroner’s building.

The remains have been positively identified as Mariam Makhniashvili, 17, who was reported missing Monday, September 14, 2009.

The post-mortem indicated that the cause of death was consistent with a fall from a significant height.

As a result of investigations conducted to date, taking the post-mortem results into consideration, the findings are not consistent with a homicide or a suspicious death.
