N.B. man Colin Patrick Sullivan facing nine counts for weekend fires

A total of nine charges have been laid against 20-year-old Colin Patrick Sullivan from Hanwell, N.B. in connection with a series of fires on April 7, 2012.

He appeared in Fredericton Provincial Court on April 10, 2012 and has been charged with two counts of causing damage by fire without regard for human life, theft of a vehicle, four counts of arson to vehicles, and two counts of impaired driving.

Sullivan has also been ordered to undergo a 30 day psychiatric assessment.  He is scheduled to appear again in Fredericton Provincial Court on May 8, 2012 at 9:30 a.m. to enter a plea.

On Saturday, April 7, 2012,  at approximately 4:57 am, District 2 RCMP received reports of three fires in the Eaglewood Drive area in Hanwell.  A home, two vehicles and a travel trailer had been set on fire.  No one was injured however a family home was severely damaged which forced a family to evacuate and seek temporary shelter. Minutes later, police received a report of a stolen truck from Hanwell Road.

At approximately 5:15 a.m. the police received a report of a crash on Brookdale Drive in Hanwell.  When officers arrived at the scene they found the 20-year-old man with the stolen truck which was on fire.  Later in the day District 2 RCMP received four more reports of vehicles damaged by fire on Hanwell Road in Hanwell.
