Brampton father Garfield Boothe’s charges elevated to first degree murder

The Peel Crown Attorney’s Office has elected to upgrade the charges originally laid against the two accused alleged to have murdered 10 year-old Shakeil Boothe.

On Friday, May 27, 2011, at approximately 5:00 p.m., Peel Regional Police and Peel Paramedics responded to a medical assistance call at a Homeland Court residence in Brampton.

On arrival, the 10 year-old male victim was found without vital signs.  He was declared dead shortly thereafter.

Homicide investigators subsequently arrested and charged the victim’s father, Garfield Boothe, a 31 year-old male from Brampton, with Second Degree Murder. His wife and the victim’s step-mother, 28 year-old Nichelle Boothe-Rowe was charged with Manslaughter.

On Thursday, May 17, 2012, both parties appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton for the start of their Preliminary Hearing and were formally charged with First Degree Murder.
