The Chatham-Kent police would like to inform citizens about an email that may possibly be an internet scam.

Recently a local citizen received an email from an unknown source with a link advertising a job opportunity for those who wish to work from home.  If you click the link and your computer is protected by Anti-Spyware software it will deny you access to the website.  If a person researching this job opportunity does not have anti-spyware software as part of their computer security, they will be automatically redirected to that website where malware is then installed on their computer that collects information about them without their knowledge.

Although there are legitimate businesses who operate from home, the Chatham-Kent Police Service would like to remind everyone not to click on links in emails from an unknown source.   You could unknowingly compromise your computer.

Given that in May 2012, Chatham-Kent’s unemployment rate was 12.3%, this ‘advertisement’ has the potential to target a vulnerable sector of our community.   Should you receive an email you believe is fraudulent, please contact police.  Remember if it sounds too good to be true – it probably is !!
