Toronto man Michael Ingram charged in a theft investigation

On Monday, July 9, 2012, police arrested a man in connection with a theft investigation.

It is alleged that:

– the accused was a director at the Laughlen Centre Foundation, a long-term care facility for senior citizens at 110 Edward Street

– the centre closed in 2004 and subsequently sold in March 2006 for $2.5 million 

– the accused acted as the centre’s solicitor for the sale of the property and the net proceeds were deposited into a trust account at his former law firm, Coutts Crane Law Firm

– the remaining balance, in the amount of $2.3 million, was to be distributed to various charities

-the accused took the money from the trust account and used it for his personal benefit

– the victim (Laughlen Centre Foundation) lost in excess of $2.3 million.

Michael Ingram, 69, of Toronto, has been charged with:

1) Theft Over $5,000

The accused is scheduled to appear in court at Old City Hall, on Wednesday, August 22, 2012, room 111, at 11 a.m.

Police believe there may be more victims.
