Hunters have finally found the dead body of a 59-year-old Penticton man, reported missing in the wasteland between state lines of Nevada and Idaho. The couple was trapped roughly a year and a half ago, whereas the authorities assert Albert Chreitien had left the vehicle alone to find help barefoot three days after they got stuck on March 22, 2011. His wife, Rita Chretien, was found in the vehicle and saved after spending almost 49 days of starvation.

According to Detective Dennis Journigan of the Elko County Sheriff’s Department, Mr. Chretien’s dead body was revealed on Saturday morning when two elk hunters were travelling through a secluded area of Merritt Mountain, an estimated 11 kilometres west from the place he left. Det. Journigan verified that the body was undamaged by animals. Police also notified that Mr. Chretien was recognized from the items found in his pockets, namely a business cards and an address book.

Det. Carpenter explained that the hunters “know of the story, of what took place and they were in the general area.” He stated that “they put two and two together and said, `Hey, we think we found your missing Canadian guy.’ ” “It’s big news around here, and everybody who lives here knows the whole story,” added Det. Carpenter. He also declared that Mrs. Chretien was pleased to hear the news; he acknowledged that “she’s obviously upset but she’s also relieved that we recovered Albert’s remains.”

Mr. Chretien’s public memorial has already been commenced in his hometown of Penticton, B.C.
