A worker of hydro has passed away due to an accident on Wednesday in southwestern Ontario while he was working to repair a damaged power line smashed by superstorm Sandy. The identification of the worker has not been made public. The Ontario Labour Ministry claims that the worker accidently electrocuted himself when he was fixing a downed power line in Sarnia.

This is the second causality related to the superstorm Sandy in Ontario. The victim used a bucket truck for repairing a fallen power line when he accidently electrocuted himself around 10 a.m. The CEO of Bluewater Power, Janice McMichael-Denni, called the death an “unspeakable tragedy,” and was saddened over the fact that this was the first death on the job for any utility worker. She stated that “our ultimate goal is to be able to support our lineman’s family and… be able to see if we can work through this day of mourning.” She also mentioned that “It’s a day you never want anybody to have to go through.”

McMichael-Dennis revealed that The Electrical Safety Authority and Sarnia police are investigating the tragic death of the man as well. Mayor of Sarnia, Mike Bradley stated that “It is devastating because the community was so proud of the fact that there had not been anyone injured during the storm and that we’d come through it as a family.” Whereas the Ontario Energy Minister, Chris Bentley, wrote on his Twitter account that “thoughts and prayers with family of Hydro worker killed in Sarnia.”
